Expertise: Climate Scientist
Dr Kgaugelo Chiloane is a professionally registered Environmental Scientist with more than 14 years consulting, research, advisory, education and awareness experience in various environmental and sustainability fields including Air Quality, Climate Change, Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, Green Economy, Waste and Water Management. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Environmental Science specialising in Air Quality and Climate Change (North West University (Potchefstroom Campus). She is the co- Founder and Executive Director of the Adaptation Institute of Southern Africa (AISA). She also served as the Member and Chairperson of the South African Adaptation Network Steering Committee. Her roles and responsibilities included initiating, implementing and managing climate change mitigation as well as community and ecosystem-based adaptation research and consulting projects in all these organisations. She is the Managing Director at KEC Environmental Solutions where she leads and provides technical leadership on climate change policy and strategy projects focusing on the development of climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies for Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, Northern Cape and Free State Provinces contracted by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. She is currently a part time Lecturer of an Environmental Science Module (Climate change policies and implementation in SA) at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and a Technical and Business Mentor at The Innovation Hub (TIH) Climate Innovation Centre (CIC) and Township Economy (Ekasi Labs) from 2012 and 2019 to date. Dr Chiloane also serves as an Independent Member of the Advisory Panel for the South African Centre for Nuclear Safety and Security (CNSS). She has published scientific articles in local and international journals and is also a reviewer of air quality and environmental related articles.
