Women’s Leadership Symposium 2020

In 2016, a consortium of four organisations; Foundation for Women’s Health Research and Development in UK, Akina Mama wa Afrika in Uganda, Sub-Sahara Advisory Panel in UK and Young Women Leaders Institute in Kenya came together seeking to amplify actions to improve the rights of East African girls and young women to be free from all forms of violence, targeting Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Somaliland and UK-African diaspora. The TuWezeshe Akina Dada- Africa/UK Young Women’s Leadership and Empowerment Movement Project was launched as part of the Common Ground Initiative funded by Comic Relief and UK Department for International Development which sought to contribute to securing the dignity, freedom and rights of all African women and girls to achieve their potential and build an Africa that is peaceful, prosperous and equitable. In 2020, the collective will be convened by Akina Mama wa Afrika in a reflection meeting bringing together fellows, mentors, young women advisors and partners under the Tuwezeshe project. The meeting will provide a space for celebrating the achievements of the project, reflect and develop strategies to carry on some of the initiatives started during the project in order to advance the rights of young African women.
