With support from AMPLIFY CHANGE, Akina Mama wa Afrika held an advocacy training for the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region(ICGLR) Members in Uganda from the 25th -27th May 2016. This was part of the intiatives under the Project on on strengthening their advocacy skills of ICGLR CSOs to enable them effectively monitor the implementation of the Kampala Declaration and other related instruments on SRHR and effectively hold heads of states accountable to their commitments
Following Gender is my Agenda Campaign Meeting , Akina Mama wa Afrika participated in the AU Gender Pre-Summit Meeting from 19th and 20th held under the theme 2016 African Year of Human Rights in particular with a focus on the rights of Women.
Members of the ICGLR National Civil Society Committee convened a press conference at AMwA offices on the 20th of November 2015, calling upon different stake holders including the AU, UN, ICGLR, CSOs and the East African community to intervene in the Burundi Crisis.
As part of the goals of developing and sustaining Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA) as a feminist organization that excels at learning, creativity and innovation, amid –year team building retreat was organized for Friday 30th October, 2015 at Forrest Cottages, Kampala, Uganda from 9:00am – 2:00pm. The retreat brought together 8 staff members including the newly recruited Executive Director Ms. Eunice Musiime and was graced by the presence of as of Prof. Maggie Kigozi a Ugandan based Board Member
With support from the Women Platform administered by Global Fund for Women, AMwA hosted a 3 day workshop at Ishango Hotel in Goma from 5th -7th Of August 2015. The Workshop that brought together 13 women leaders from various women’s organizations in Goma focused on strengthening women’s networks in Goma .
