TuWezeshe Young Women Fellowship Training held at Garuga Country Resort Entebbe
The sixty-first session of the Commission on the Status of Women took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 13 to 24 March 2017.
Representatives of member states, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world attended the session.
Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA) on behalf of the International Conference of Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) National Civil Society Forum and in partnership with Center for Domestic Violence Prevention (CEDOVIP) held the People’s Parliament focusing on the implementation of the Kampala Declaration on Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV).The event brought together key stakeholders including representatives from Ministries of Gender and Health, Judiciary, Civil Society, Police and the general public to reflect on the accomplishments, challenges and identify collective strategies to accelerate the implementation of Kampala Declaration on SGBV and other related national laws and policies.
The objective of the training was to strenthen the leadership capacity of Uganda Horticultural, Industrial, Service Providers and Allied Workers Union (UHISPAWU) leaders to be able to advocate for women's labour rights in the horticulture sector.
